This Oribe-ware matcha bowl from Kyoto has a carved, dectagonal outer shape created using mentori (chamfered) cutting technique. The interior is rounded to facilitate whisking matcha. It has the traditional freely-applied Oribe dark green glaze with a rough, rustic texture. This style is named after the man under whose influence it was first produced, Furuta Oribe, a pupil of the famous tea master Sen Rikyu.
