Yuzamashi is a Japanese water-cooling pitcher or water cooler. It is used to lower the temperature of hot water for steeping teas, especially for high-end sencha and gyokuro. This traditional black clay ceramic yuzamashi is Tokoname-ware from Aichi prefecture. Tokoname-ware is made of fine-grained clay containing a high amount of iron and so will provide iron content in water for making tea. This is an unglazed ceramic with smooth polished texture and a back handle.
