Takoyaki Style Green Tea Snack Balls
Ingredients (40 balls)
Batter:
- 2 eggs
- 200 g flour
- 10 g sugar
- 3 g baking powder
- 1 tbsp green tea powder (cooking matcha, sencha or houjicha powder)
- 2 cups cold water
- 1 cup milk
- 1 pinch of salt
- Vegetable oil for backing
Options for fillings for a savory flavour:
- Bite sized cheese (chedder or mozzelerra)
- Bite sized ham
… and topping with:
- Mayonase
- Takoyaki sauce
- Bite sized chocolates (dark or white)
… and topping with:
- Maple syrup
- Vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Preheat Takoyaki pan to 400 degrees F
- Sift flour, baking powder, and green tea powder together in a large bowl
- Add sugar and salt into the bowl and mix together with a whisk
- Add eggs, milk and cold water into the bowl and mix all together
- Transfer the mixed batter to a measuring cup / pitcher with a handle and spout for easy pouring
- Spread some vegetable oil in both the bubbles and connecting flat part of the Takoyaki pan
- Pour the batter to fill the bubbles of the pan
- Add your preferred fillings in each bubbles over the batter
- Once the bottom of the batter becomes baked and hardened (after 2-3 minutes), turn each piece 90 degrees with a skewer. Then flip all of them and keep turning each piece to make an even brown colour and rounded shape for 3-4 minutes until cooked.
- Place the cooked snack balls on a plate and finish off with your prefered toppings and / or sauce.
