This beautiful signature piece by the renowned master artisan Hokujo is a one-of-a-kind Tokoname-ware kyusu. It has an unglazed matte finish inside and out. The clay is reddish brown and is decorated using the mogake (seaweed wrapping) technique. Wet seaweed is placed on the clay and then fired in a kiln. Salt in the seaweed reacts in the process and creates unique color patterns like silk strings burnt across the surface. Mogake is unique to the Tokoname region and this is a wonderful work from one of its most recognized modern artisans. These are collector’s items!
Expect the clay to change colour with use and as you and your kyusu get to know one another. For best results, use this kyusu with one tea kind as the unglazed clay will take on flavours.
