These Tenmoku chawan (matcha bowl) from Mr. Tanaka have the slightly indented ridge around the top common to Chinese Jian ware that this style imitates with a Shippo Tsunagi (Seven Treasures) design in blue and green ellipses and red coloured dots. The seven treasures geometric design symbolizes endless peace and happiness.
Choose from ivory or black. The ivory chawan has a kannyu or ‘crackle’ glaze creates a network of hairline cracks unique to this piece that will change colour with use and exposure to tea adding character and marking the relationship of the user with the matcha bowl. The black chawan has a slight matte finish.
