This handcrafted, heart-shaped Tokoname-ware yuzamashi (water cooler) with no handle from the Takasuke kiln is used to cool water to an appropriate steeping temperature, especially for gyokuro and high-end sencha and kabusecha teas that are steeped at lower temperatures. Ashes of different kinds of wood are used to produce its yellow colour from the usual reddish clay of the Tokoname region. Iron from the clay is infused with the cooling water. This yuzamashi is relatively small, thin and light, has a no-drip spout and matches well with the Kyusu Teapot Tokoname – Takasuke Gokushou (110 mL).
